Free Eyeglasses Program

Ever since June 30, 1925, when Helen Keller asked the Lions Club to serve as “Knights of the Blind” for the visually impaired, the Lions have provided eyeglasses for those in need, especially children who don’t otherwise have access to them. We have provided eye exams and new glasses for hundreds of local kids over the years, and these days we do it with a voucher for Walmart Optical.
As part of our local effort, a used glasses dropoff box is located on the sidewalk in front of Kirk’s Pharmacy. From there they go to a Lions-owned and operated facility in Lacey WA that takes these used glasses and turns them into new glasses for folks in need around the world as we fulfill our pledge to Miss Keller to be knights for the blind in the “crusade against darkness”.
The Lions also operate vision clinics wherever they are most needed worldwide. This is where these renewed glasses are prescribed and distributed, and where care and treatment are proided to prevent and treat conditions of the eye.
If you need glasses and can’t afford them, or know anyone who does, please e-mail us using with the word “Vision” in the subject line so we can help.
